>>> Who Was Logichan?
We're here to celebrate the life of our friend Alex (Logichan), who recently passed back on January 25th after another long bout with cancer.
We're here to celebrate the life of our friend Alex (Logichan), who recently passed back on January 25th after another long bout with cancer.
He was a longtime supporter of Scrub Club Records artists and the Nerdcore community as a whole, a member of the Bay 12 forums, an avid Dwarf Fortress player, and he ultimately made the Retro Game Champion project feel more like home for all of us.
The news that he had passed really shook us... We were all worried when he disappeared from Discord for a long while and wondered if his cancer had pushed back again. What we didn't know is that he was concealing just how bad it had returned and he didn't want it to be a burden to anyone. That's just how he worked - One of those rare "give you the shirt off his back" types, through and through. He may have had a cynical shell with as much dark humor as you could pack into it *slaps car roof*, but at the very center? A heart of platinum.
He loved tuning into the weekly RGC streams over the past couple years and they became one of his favorite ways to pass the time, especially during treatment. He looked forward to being there and we always welcomed his fantastic brand of commentary that would leave us all laughing to the point of tears. Seriously, like, every single week.

I really appreciate the lot of you who messaged me privately to see if I'd heard from Logichan during the time he wasn't around. It was incredible to see how many of you truly cared for him on a personal level. I was honored to find out that he had given instructions to his mother to reach out to me if things turned for the worst , so I could let everyone else know. She was by his side every day, all day during treatments, and he was in her arms as he passed.

>>> Helping Out an Awesome Momma
That all brings us to today. While we're here to have a stream full of good vibes and laughs in honor of Alex (as he would have wanted us to go on our usual path and not dwell on the sad parts), we're also here to help his mother out.
She wants things to stay fairly private regarding all of this, but I can at least tell you personally that the bills and legal/insurance burdens that come with losing someone here in the United States... they come in droves. Medicare can only go so far in keeping her going at the moment, and she has only one other family member left in this world to talk to.
I'm hoping we can come together to raise both money and encouragement for her, and get her in a better position to survive these rough times and only have to concentrate on the memories of her son that she loved more than anything.
>>> Donations
100% of the money you donate (minus GoFundMe's portion, of course) will go directly to Alex's mom.
Aside from me doing this GoFundMe and the stream today, Dalton (who was also friends with Logichan) really wanted to help out, and has offered the first 20 people that donate over $20 a little thanks in return - A dozen fresh, homemade, double chocolate toffee cookies. If you've ever had Dal's baking before, you know that they do not mess around, and anything they make is delicious.
Of course, we are only able to have these available for folks to pick up who are local to the Austin, TX area (we can't mail them out). However, if you are one of the first 20 people and you are still interested, we will donate those cookies in honor of you and Alex to our local libraries and firehouses with a note to spread the Logilove as far as it can go.
Whether you are picking up the cookies or want to pass them onto others, please mention your intention in your note along with your donation.
Finally, every little bit helps. If you can't afford to help financially right now, that is totally understandable! If you can instead share this GoFundMe page or the stream today, that will help out big time and won't cost a dime.

>>> Thanks, Y'all
Alex's mom appreciates any help you can send her way, and we here in the RGC community appreciate the love and good memories you helped make with him before he passed. You may not know it since you only knew him online, but you were some of his favorite people in the entire world. I mean that, literally.

COVID may be showing signs of slowing, but please stay safe and make sure your loved ones know just how important they are to you.
