Hello,
My name is Anna Moroney. I’ve loved and have been married to Alex for 21 years. To say that he is my world would be an understatement!
He’s spent our time together taking care of and looking after me and now it’s my time to look after him, but I need help!
2 days before Christmas Alex came down with a “cold”… on Christmas Day he got up and watched the kids open up their presents, but went straight back to bed.
He had a cough that wouldn’t let him get any rest. He was taking NyQuil and assured me that he didn’t need to go to the doctor.
I woke the day after Christmas and Alex was struggling to breathe and was very unsteady on his feet. I went to call an ambulance, but Alex said I was overreacting and to just take him to the urgent care as he wanted to get right back home and the ER would take too long.
The urgent care put him in an ambulance to St.Francis in Tulsa.
When I arrived at the trauma center they had him sedated and intubated and asked me a litany of questions.
Is he a heavy smoker?
Is he a heavy drinker?
Has he been suicidal?
Is he depressed?
He vapes only the finest herb and likes a glass of wine every now and then…and no more depressed than the average US citizen?!!
They told me he was a very sick man and to say my prayers, but that they’d try their best and rushed him away.
We later found out that he had flu, double pneumonia and sepsis.
Alex had a MONTH of hell in the ICU.
He was moved to a “step down “unit yesterday! I was over the moon but then
one lung keeps collapsing so they’re putting a balloon in it to inflate it.
He is almost off of the vent entirely, but has a tracheotomy. It’s too fresh to put a voice box in it yet, so he’s communicating with what I call “shitty charades” …
I’m terrible at lip reading, but we are getting there!
He has started physical therapy and has regained strength to write a few sentences and then he’s tired.
We don’t know what the future will look like yet. We don’t have a recovery timeline even. The dr was extremely vague with it could be months or a year or two.
We are taking things day by day, but I’m keeping faith and hope that the trach surgery IS reversible and that he WILL have his voice back again!
His brain is 100% there and he’s sharper than ever, so I’m sure that makes things 100 times harder on him.
It’s going to be a long road ahead, but he HAS a road and we will take him and love him in whatever capacity I can get!
Alex took care of all of our finances and so I’ve been doing my best to stay on top of everything, but it really is a lot!
We have two special needs kids and I’m doing my best to keep them happy and distracted and keep to their routine as much as possible!
It really does feel grotesque to ask for donations at the best of times, but in this economy it’s like triple icky, but my hands are tied and I’ve got to ask for help.
If you don’t want to donate through this I get it! I’m just trying to raise some funds for paying the bills, but anyway that you can help is so extremely appreciated!
All my love,
Anna
