I am Erin Taylor and I want you to meet one of my former preschool students, Alex.
Alex is a lovable 15 year old boy with an infectious personality that steals everyone’s heart. He is sweet, has the best sense of humor, and is extremely caring. Alex is a fighter. He has had to be. Alex was born with a heart defect and had surgery at only a few weeks old and will need another surgery in his future. He takes medicine for thyroid issues. Alex has Down Syndrome, which provide him with challenges as well. But, nothing gets him down and nothing dims the light that he shines wherever he goes. Alex is a superhero.
Alex has diverse interests that include cooking, Marvel Superhero’s, and he has an obsession with Danny Devito and The Wiggles. He is a huge fan of the music of John Denver, Justin Bieber, The Beatles, John Legend, Ed Sheeran, and Michael Jackson. Alex loves to play outside every day and he is also working on building his followers to his YouTube Channel “BroBroBroGamingTime” .
Alex is SUPER proud to be a cool surfer dude with Gnome Surf and was looking forward to the upcoming surf season.
On April 29, after having routine bloodwork, Alex was shockingly and unexpectedly diagnosed with ALL-b Leukemia and was immediately admitted to Boston Children’s hospital. His whole world has been turned upside down and since 4/29 has had 5 lumbar punctures, bone marrow testing, a pic line put in and is dealing with mouth sores which make eating difficult, gastric issues, and bouts of intense pain. He has started chemotherapy and has shaved his head. He thinks he looks like his brother John with his cool haircut. He has been such a brave super hero but his road to recovery has only just begun.
Alex’s mom Beth, a devoted special education teacher, has been by Alex’s side 24/7 since he was admitted on 4/29. His mom Cassie comes to Boston whenever she can and has been home holding down the fort with Alex’s sister, 3 brothers, and two dogs; all of whom Alex misses very much.
So many people have asked how they can help so we wanted to create this rally of support for Alex and his family so they have the love, assistance, and means to get Alex healthy, strong and back home with his family and friends. No superhero should have to fight a battle like this alone.
We thank you deeply for taking your time to learn about Alex’s situation and we thank you for whatever you can offer; be it prayers, positive vibes, or financial assistance to help cover medical and other unexpected expenses.
