Alex Portlas' Car Crash Recovery Fund
Donation protected
On October 3, 2020, Alex Portlas was in a one car accident on a mountainous canyon road outside of Bozeman, Montana. His tires caught the sand in the narrow shoulder on a turn and his vehicle lost control. Alex’s truck rolled multiple times off the road, pinning and crushing his left arm underneath. His plans of camping with his friends quickly changed as he was airlifted to the hospital in Billings, MT with life threatening injuries all along the left side of his body.
In the days that followed his accident, Alex has already undergone numerous surgeries as doctors have tried to stabilize him and piece back Alex’s left elbow, which was shattered into 50 pieces. These surgeries were also needed to address his broken hip and numerous facial and scalp wounds requiring stitches and staples. Unfortunately, with extensive nerve and muscle damage, Alex’s left arm will never recover. At best he will have a fused elbow with limited strength and movement in his arm, wrist and hand and could possibly need to be amputated.
At 20 years old, Alex had graduated from his diesel tech program at TSTC in Waco, TX and moved to Montana 6 weeks before his accident. He will have to put his diesel career on hold as the years ahead of him will include multiple surgeries, reconstruction, rehabilitation and therapy. As Alex’s family, we are beyond thankful he is alive and stable. We know his late dad, Peter, was watching over him as his guardian angel. This accident will change Alex’s life forever. He has a long hard road ahead of him but we know he will fight throughout his recovery.
This fundraiser is being organized by Alex's siblings and the funds raised for Alex will be used to pay for his medical costs, including the airlift, surgeries, prosthetics, and physical therapy. We thank everyone for their generous support and will include updates on Alex’s progress.
