Fund Mr. W's Public School Supplies

I always wanted to become a teacher, but believed it would come later in life when I had more "wisdom" and money to help my students. However, the mentorship of individuals who looked like me and were close to my age at the University of Miami truly transformed my thinking. I realized the importance of young mentorship especially after being a Youth Coach with First Star U, teaching Foster Care students. I also realized the importance of asking for help, which is what I am doing now through this Go Fund Me. After being accepted into Teach for America and being a member of UM's newly piloted Teacher Accelerated Program, I have been given the chance to join a great network of people and receive the best training possible for a non-education major to teach in underfunded schools in Miami. As I embark into my first full year of teaching, I worry about the cost of supplies, books, and even decorations for my classroom to ensure all of my students succeed, feel like they are in a welcoming environment, and see how much I care for them. Knowing that I am living in one of the most expensive cities in the world, am underpaid, and will be teaching at schools with less funding and more low-income students, your help would be much appreciated. Any money you donate will go fully towards my students: supplies, access to digital platforms for teachers, a classroom library, student prizes, printing, history decorations, snacks, and much more. The average first-year teacher spends close to $1,000 on these materials. I plan on teaching for at least 5 years, so any amount will help.
