Alex's Appalachian Trail Hike For Housing Families

Tax deductible

Want to join me in supporting a good cause?
I'm raising money for Housing Families by hiking across the the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire and your contribution will make an impact! Whether you donate $5 or $500 every little bit helps. Thank you for your support! I've included information about Housing Families Inc. below.

Where will the money go?
The funds I'm raising will be dedicated towards the GREAT Youth and Families Program at Housing Families! Housing Families’ GREAT Youth and Families program provides vital services for homeless children and their parents. Children’s services include after school tutoring, individual and group counseling, and summer enrichment activities.

There is significant need for support services for homeless children in Massachusetts, where the average age of a homeless person is just 8 years old. The GREAT Youth and Families Program’s goal is to help homeless children acquire the skills to succeed in school and throughout their lives.

The program’s name was created by program staff, to highlight the key focus areas for children’s long-term success:

Growth
Resilience
Empowerment
Acceptance
Trust

$ 100 -> Provides transportation to the children's after school program

$ 250 -> Provides the children in the children's after school program with healthy snacks and meals for a month

More information on the after school program can be found here

Why Housing Families?
For the past 3 years I have tutored and worked at the summer program for Housing Families!

Housing Families works to end family homelessness in the communities we serve. Our families are from all over Massachusetts and we focus on Malden, Everett, Medford, Revere and Chelsea. We do this by providing safe temporary shelter, creating affordable housing, preventing homelessness and offering individualized supportive services to family members of all ages. We respect each family in their journey toward greater security and stability.

What I am going to do?
I am going to be hiking across 68 miles of the Appalachian Trail over the course of 5 days. I will be hiking with my friend Ian who is a very experienced hiker, however this is my first time! We are going to eat, sleep, and of course hike in the wilderness for these 5 days. I am a bit nervous but very excited!

I will be posting my progress every step of the way!
