At the age of eighteen, the story of my sister, Alexa Duran, should have been about an aspiring college student majoring in political science. Unfortunately, her life was cut short by a tragic event that unfolded on Thursday, March 15, 2018 publicized as the FIU pedestrian bridge collapse.
Alexa was a great loss to our family. We all had the highest expectations for her. Our family has a loss that will never be replaced. She had aspirations and dreams to help others. Our family knew her as a loving, caring, and humble soul. In our hearts, we all are experiencing emptiness. Alexa was an essential part of our lives. She tirelessly worked with my mom everyday in our dry cleaners, while at the same time keeping up with her college studies. My dad describes her as a kind-hearted, loving daughter who was willing to help and support the family whenever needed. That was just the person that Alexa was.
Knowing Alexa meant loving her.
Nothing will close the wounds that have been inflicted in the hearts of our family. Nothing will be able to bring her back. However, something can be done to help ease the financial burden that lies in front of us. We ask that you help my family to ease the hurdles that will lie ahead.
Thank you for your help and support.
