Alexander Morales Memorial

Our friend and brother, SFC Alexander Morales, passed away November 23, 2021. Alex was a great man, father, leader, NCO and all-around person. During his 20-years of service in the U.S. Army, Alex was deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan, where he proudly served our county. It is not an exaggeration but a literal fact that Alex put his own life on the line to save numerous soldiers lives on the Samara Bypass outside of Tikrit, Iraq in 2004. Alex is a true American hero.

 

Unfortunately, the trauma experienced by those like Alex can lead to PTSD. Alcohol is the most commonly abused substance in the veteran population and is often used to deal with the effects of war. Alex passed away from complications from cirrhosis of the liver. Veterans may abuse alcohol because they are suffering from mental illness or having difficulties adjusting to civilian life after deployment.

 

This fund will be used to cover funeral costs - the total cost is approximately $8000, but the VA is covering $2000. Any additional funds will be donated to Hope for the Warriors to assist veterans to get the treatment they need, and also to assist Alex's family.

The VA offers medically managed detoxification, short-term outpatient counseling, intensive outpatient treatment, self-help groups, residential care, relapse prevention, and treatment for PTSD, depression and other conditions that can contribute to substance dependance.
