On Tuesday June 23, 2020, our family suffered a tremendous loss. Alexander Neville passed away unexpectedly from a Fentanyl overdose. Alex was just 14-years old and had an entire lifetime ahead of him to live and experience. Amy (his mother) has asked us to share his story below in her words.
Alexander had been struggling his entire life with depression, anxiety, and more recently addiction. Alex had spent some time in a rehab facility this last winter/early spring, and of course we were trying to help him all the time. Once he came home things were going better (not great) but over the last 10 days or so there was a rapid decline, he began to use pills. Alex had always been pretty open with us and we knew something was going on. On Sunday June 21, 2020, Alex had a very long conversation with us regarding the previous 10 days. The biggest take away from this was his desire to return to rehab because he was ready, and he recognized his need for help. On Monday June 22, 2020, I contacted the rehab facility, but did not hear back. On Monday evening, at some point, Alex took a pill, which he thought was Oxycontin or Percocet, it was actually a pill laced with Fentanyl. Alexander passed away sometime that night, we did not know until 9am Tuesday when I went to wake him for a dentist appointment. Please, if you suspect anyone you love is dealing with addiction, especially your children I beg you to do everything you can to save them.
While this is a horrific tragedy, we are not going to let him become just another statistic. America's Youth matters and needs help understanding and fighting the opioid addiction crisis. For more information on what opioids are please see this link www.drugabuse.gov/publications/drugfacts/fentanyl We are currently in the process of launching a 501c, The Alexander Neville Foundation for opioid education and outreach for youth. This foundation will aim to provide education, support, assistance and resources for youth regarding addiction and mental health. Services for Alex will be held on July 3, 2020, at O'Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Pkwy Laguna Hills, CA. Unfortunately, due to the Pandemic, the service is only open to family; however, will be available on a webcast. In lieu of flowers contributions and donations will be accepted to launch the foundation.
Thank you for your continued love and support.
