On the evening of Thursday, November 8, while preparing dinner an unexpected fire broke out in the kitchen of the Johnson/Alcantara family. The flames quickly got out of hand and after fire fighters responded to the home they were able to extinguish the fire although much was damaged or lost in the process. The home is going to need extensive repairs which will not only displace the family for several months but burden them with renovation costs due the home's rental status. Kitchen appliances, flooring, cabinets and many personal items were lost in the fire due to the smoke and flames impacting more than one room of the home. This sweet and humble family does not ask for much and gives back to their community each day through their work in the Harrisonburg City Schools.
