Alexandra Manolache and Raluca Negrisanu

Hi, I'm Raluca Negrisanu, a German professor at East Tennessee State University. I am fundraising for the continued medical care of my 19-year-old daughter Alexandra Manolache. On May 20th, 2023 our lives changed completely. Alex, a freshman at ETSU, was in a terrible car accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury and lung failure. For a week she was in critical condition, in a coma, on a ventilator in the ICU. Since then, she did wake up, but her consciousness and awareness of the surroundings are minimal and the doctors say she will have a very long journey, probably years of therapy and treatments to relearn to walk, talk, or have a life outside a bed. Right now, she needs total assistance with daily care and 24/7 supervision by a caregiver. It is the biggest and most terrifying challenge we are going to face as a family and the costs of taking care of her are mounting every day. We want to give this smart, witty, ambitious and fiercely independent young woman, who had so many plans for her future, a chance to fight for an independent life. I miss her smiles, her jokes, our lunches together on the ETSU campus and our conversations about life issues and plans. We are asking you for any little help you would be able to give. It is getting very expensive with almost 2 months of rehab in Atlanta, living in hospitals, hotels, and Airbnbs, new special equipment, and supplies. Once we are home, we will need to make some house modifications and probably look for a new, more accessible house in the near future.
