Alexa’s Journey: From Homelessness To Paying It Forward

Against All Odds. That phrase could easily describe the journey of any immigrant, including a member of our family, Alexa Marin.
Alexa is shy about speaking English because of her heavy accent, but she wanted to reach out to you personally and practiced a lot to speak directly to you in English about her story and the people who helped her survive.
In 2019, she was homeless and hungry in Tijuana. A collective of migrants, Mexicans and Americans gave her hot meals. They also helped her find health care and get off the street and into a shelter.
While waiting to cross the border in 2018, migrants organized to help themselves and others in need. They called themselves Contra Viento y Marea — which translates to Against All Odds. And their work goes on more than five years later.
With your donations, we will personally buy food and cooking fuel. As we’ve done in the past, we’ll share video of our trip to Tijuana to meet and support Contra Viento y Marea. You can also visit them on Facebook.
Alexa’s video will show you more than we can say about her journey from there to here. With Contra Viento y Marea, she persevered and today is a beautiful, hardworking, happy, determined woman.
Please watch and share the video, where you will see and hear about Alexa’s journey. She made it Against all Odds. Others can, too, with your support.
Thank you.
