My name is Alexis Charda’ Curry, and I am 21 years old. At the age of 9 I was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor called a Craniopharyngioma. I had surgery, radiation, and chemo. My pituitary was damaged during surgery, in order to maintain life. This caused me to develop panhypopituitarism, a disorder caused when there is no thyroid function. It caused me to gain excessive weight. I weighed 70 lbs. before surgery and in a matter of weeks, I weighed 150 lbs. I currently see many specialists such as: endocrinologists, neurologists, oncologists, rheumatologists, gastroenterologists, chiropractors, biomedical and physical therapists, alternative and holistic doctors, and different pain centers. As a result, of my brain tumor, I developed so many symptoms such as panhypopit, diabetes, weight gain, frequent urination and thirst, fatigue, joint pain, skeletal pain, arthritis, brittle teeth (to which all my teeth had to be extracted in Feb. 2013 due to health problems therefore, I received implants), acromegaly, nausea, dizziness, digestive problems, chronic pain syndrome, muscle weakness, and osteopenia. I also developed costeo chondritis and 3 herniated disks. Most recently (Nov.2014), I was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and had gallbladder surgery.
At my young age, I have witnessed many struggles and obstacles that most people will not be faced with throughout their entire life. I am blessed and happy to say that I am a 11 year brain tumor survivor. I have a great family, church, and faith based support. Having a strong relationship with God has made my life easier, when it felt like everything was falling apart. I feel like I can handle whatever life throws at me. I am very determined that “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”
Reason for raising money: In the last 2 years I have paid over $40,000 out of pocket in dental bills and I still owe $13,000. Also, I am raising this money to be able to go to a cancer retreat in order to get natural healing. Thanks for your much needed support!!! May God Bless You
