Alexis's Battle With Hydrocephalus
Donation protected
In 2021,Alexis my daughter was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus which is fluid near the right ventricle in her brain. I noticed something was wrong when my daughter's forehead became very swollen and you could see the veins in her head. I took her to the doctor at Princess Margaret Hospital and upon diagnosis, they notified me that it was Communicating Hydrocephalus which would require surgery for the removal of the excess fluid on her brain.
She had the first surgery on April 23rd, 2020 to place a Ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt in her brain which is a small plastic tube that helps drain extra fluid from the right ventricle. After the surgery, she had 25%-30% improvement but still has consistent headaches. I only recognize that she has a headache when the monitor on her VP shunt is very hot after feeling the back of her head. She has been having these headaches over the past two years and it is becoming very difficult for her.
My daughter is in desperate need of another surgery so they can remove the current VP shunt and replace it with a newer one so her condition can get better. There is no cure for this condition so I would appreciate any contribution that you can make to help my daughter to become more functional and have a chance at a great life. Thank you in advance for your contribution.
