Alex runs for Ukraine
Tax deductible
I’m Alex Vasserman, and I’m running the 10-mile Broad Street run on May 1st, 2022, in Philadelphia. This run is the largest 10 mile run in America and longest race I’ve run to date.
I am dedicating my run to the refugee crisis that is unfolding in Ukraine. To help the Ukrainian refugees, I have set a goal of donating $3,000 to Direct Relief charity by race day.
Why Direct Relief? This charity is working directly with Ukraine’s Ministry of Health and other partners in the region to provide requested medical aid, from oxygen concentrators to critical care medicines – while preparing to offer longer-term medical aid to people displaced or affected by the conflict.
For many in the US, this crisis is painful to watch, especially as it unfolds on our TVs and across social media. For my family and me, this pain strikes us more deeply.
Reason being, we came from the places that are currently being invaded by the Russian forces.
I was born in the former U.S.S.R (current country of Moldova) in 1987 and on March 1, 1991, my parents and I fled after we were granted asylum in the US as refugees during the collapse of the Soviet Union. I came to the United States at 4-years-old, and I do not remember much about life under Communism. The horrific situation in Ukraine brings back all the painful stories that my grandparents and parents would tell me about our family’s experiences during WW2 and during the post-war era.
Please help me meet this goal and support the current refugees in crisis.
