Alfredo Jaime- Westgate Shooting Victim
On Wednesday, May 20th, Alfredo Jaime was one of three victims of gun violence at Westgate Entertainment District. He was shot in the chest, causing major blood loss, a punctured lung, and broken ribs. Due to the amount of blood loss, surgery could not be done until May 22nd. He was in an induced coma hooked up in breathing machines and due to Covid-19 with no family by his side. During surgery, they removed all bullet fragments, reconstructed his lung, and internal fixation plating of the ribs. It is truly a miracle he is still with us. His doctors and nurses keep reminding us how lucky he is to be alive due to the bullet being just a couple inches off from a fatal injury.
Alfredo just turned 19 years old in March and due to the brutality and bitterness of one man, his life has changed completely. Surgery was a success but he still has a rough road ahead of recovery. There has been discussion of him needing rehabilitation in several areas including how to walk again. Unfortunately he does not have medical insurance and will need as much help with medical bills.
Our family would like to thank all first responders, including those who also assisted him at Westgate, were by his side until the paramedics arrived, the Glendale Police Department and the wonderful staff, nurses and doctors where he is currently being treated. We can't thank you enough for your bravery, care and dedication. We also want to thank our community for your prayers and positive thoughts that have kept us strong. 
He always has the biggest and warmest smile! 
Alfredo is the only son and has 3 sisters. He is a very loving, caring soul, full of personality and will do anything to be funny and goofy. He is the first in his family to graduate high school and has started working in construction with his father. He is a big family guy and loves his nieces and nephew so much.
