Ali at Central Coffee

With a heavy heart I need to inform all of you who have supported Ali in this way that he passed away yesterday, September 3, 2024. He will be greatly missed by his family, neighbors and friends. Please know that your support was greatly appreciated by Ali in his last months and eased his mind as he fought this terrible disease.

Funeral services will be held at Valley Memorial Park Cemetery at 650 Bugeia Lane, Novato, CA 94945 on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon

Many of you who know and love NOPA as well as coffee know Ali, the owner of Central Coffee on Hayes at Central. Ali Garavy has been serving coffee and community for 27 years— he opened Central Coffee in 1995. He has donated to countless block parties and Sunday streets, he always asks about our kids and our lives, and frankly, the neighborhood wouldn’t be the same without him.

Now Ali needs our help. He has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer that has spread throughout the body. He is fighting hard for his health, and actually has done much better than doctors originally thought he would, however he is struggling financially as a result of a hospitalization and other related factors.

Please give what you can so that Ali can focus on his recovery and not worry about these other bills. Any amount is helpful-- $5 to $500+—just pitch in if you can.
