Update:
There have been so many changes to Ali’s childhood home! The floors have come up, the walls have come down, furniture is gone & so many cherished belongings have been removed to dumpsters. They will need a new foundation, walls, furniture, cars, & a demolition team to take down the barn. There is still a long road ahead but with your help, we can do it! Thank you!
A note from Ali & Mark:
Mark and I thank you for the incredible outpouring of love and support. It’s times like this that we are reminded why we chose to live our lives in Vermont and are so grateful to be a part of this incredible community. It is with your help that we will be able to rebuild our lives and get back into our home. We have a long road ahead of us but you give us the strength we need. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! We don’t know where we would be with out your help. We could not do this without all of you. Love, Ali & Mark
On July 10th, 2023, my dear friends, Ali & Mark woke in the early morning hours to see their lives turned upside-down. Upon hearing flood water rushing through the downstairs of their home, Ali then snapped the photo out her bedroom window that has since become synonymous with this flood. On our phone call that morning we discovered that all three of her family cars were completely submerged & her barn was under at least 6 feet of water. The basement of her family home that she and her husband had purchased only 9 months ago, was completely submerged & the flood waters breeched her first floor destryoing the floors, furniture, appliances & irreplacable family mementos. Later that day they would have to be evacuated with their dogs & the few personal items they could quickly gather. They have since been safely housed on higher ground with family friends.
This unprecidented disaster has diplaced them from their home & left them in a state of shock & despair. Before the flood, Ali & Mark have always done what they could to help the community & others in need. During Covid, Mark, who is a chef in Ludlow, participated in the 'everybody eats' program which donated food to local families in need. They also organized transport of food & supplies to Block Island, RI which had been completely cut off from the main land. If you've ever had the privilege of meeting either of them, you have immediately felt welcomed, supported & loved.
They are deeply rooted in the Weston/Ludlow, VT community and plan to live the rest of their lives here. This is their home. That being said, the financial burden they now face is an immense one. Your support during this time will help them rebuild their lives, replace essential items, and together, we can help them find solace in your generosity. Thank you for taking the time to read this & donate what you can.
