The Mrs. Markay Early Education Foundation

Hello, we're Zac and Camryn Denham, the children of the late Alice “Mrs. Markay” Denham. Our mother dedicated 22 years of her life to nurturing young minds as a preschool teacher at The Golden Rule Daycare, alongside the original owners Denise Fontenot and Rene' Denham. Her commitment to education left an indelible mark on the children of St. Amant.

Tragically, in the fall of 2023, our mother was diagnosed with an aggressive lung cancer shortly after retiring. It was a devastating blow to our family and the community she served with unwavering dedication. Before her passing on March 14, 2024, we discussed with her and our family friends, Christian Berthelot and his wife Josie, how we could continue her legacy.

Together, we've decided to establish The Mrs. Markay Early Education Foundation in honor of our sweet mother, Alice “Mrs. Markay” Denham. Christian and Josie, now the new owners of the daycare, have graciously supported us in setting up this foundation. Our aim is to raise funds to provide educational opportunities for four lucky pre-school students per school year, granting the selected a free semester of education at Golden Rule Daycare our foundation. This initiative is our way of honoring our mother's service and ensuring that her legacy lives on, benefiting more children in the community!
