Anyone who knows Alice will be deeply saddened this Go Fund Me has had to be set up for the 21-year-old who sustained a life-changing injury in a fall at Cartmel on Saturday, July 20.
The amateur rider remains in intensive care at Royal Preston Hospital after receiving successful surgery to stabilise a thoracic spinal fracture, but there are indications of some damage to the spinal cord.
She will remain in hospital as plans are made for her longer-term rehabilitation.
Alice loves horses and riding and under Rules she has ridden three times on the Flat, recording a second and third, while over Jumps she has partnered seven mounts including a third and a fourth.
She is also an accomplished point-to-point rider who has struck up a fine association with Keiran Burke’s Golden Poet, winning three times on the Urban Poet gelding including twice on the same day at Larkhill, although one of these victories was a walkover. As well as these victories she rode her last point-to-point winner onboard her own Bistouri D'Honore at Umberleigh whom she trains and owns her self.
But while Alice excels in the saddle and was injured doing something that she loves best, she is also an integral member of Burke’s Whitcombe Stables team in Dorset where not only does she ride out and provide brilliant care for the horses, but is invaluable in the office making entries and socialising with owners. Although her love for racing has always been there Alice was an accomplished event rider and also was a Horse Trials Support Group scholar.
Alice faces a long journey in so many ways, but the purpose of this Go Fund Me page is to make that journey just that little bit easier, allaying some financial worries that she doesn’t deserve to endure and meaning that if there is something that she needs to purchase urgently, she has the means to do so.
A very young life was brought into turmoil in an instant at Cartmel in July and everyone associated with and who know Alice will be extremely grateful if you are able to help even with just the smallest donation.
The very best of luck to Alice with her rehabilitation.
Thanks a million,
Alice Gregory
