Alice’s Life Saving Surgery

Hi, thank you so much for taking the time to read about Alice. I created this page on behalf of my sister, Brooke.
On Sunday, August 27, Alice was viciously attacked by another dog at my sister’s small community neighborhood dog park, ECO Dog Park.
It started off like a typical Sunday evening for them. Dinner at home with the family, then taking their two dogs on a walk to the dog park, which was only a couple blocks away from their house. The next event was completely unexpected.
As they just left the main parking lot to the dog park, dogs unleashed and running in the field, a man and his two dogs were approaching in the other direction. As his dogs got closer to us, Alice became hesitant and was running in the other direction away from his larger dog. It was a mutt of some sort, medium to large breed and shortshorthaired. The dog must've noticed Alice was spooked, and became insistent on getting near her. This is when everything becomes a little bit blurry. The aggressive dog went straight for her right thigh, in a vicious manner. She was able to get away a few times, but he kept coming back going towards her backside. The owner of this dog stood there silent, frozen; as they were screaming at the top of our lungs. Hesitant to try to get in the middle of the too, Brooke eventually was able to push her out of the way and swoop her up out of immediate danger. They left the scene before anything else could happen.
The first trip to the emergency veterinary hospital, Alice was put under anesthesia so they could address her five significant puncture wounds and tears. Four Penrose drains were placed in the wounds as they were accumulating fluid under the tissue. The tears were sutured and some tissue that was too damaged was removed. Alyson was discharged a few hours later, after the anesthesia wore off, on four different medication's.
24 hours later, the wound on her right thigh had become black in color with the surrounding tissue very red and inflamed. There was a very foul smell coming from this wound, and a lot of purulent drainage. The next trip to the emergency veterinary hospital, required a surgical specialist to intervene. She was nearing sepsis at this point. The veterinary tissue specialist is performing surgery on Alice this afternoon. More updates to come.
This is likely not the last time they will have to return back to the emergency vet for more wound complications. It was advised to them that this is going to be a long healing process and there are still so many unknowns.
We completely understand that not everyone can donate. Your kind words and healing prayers for Alice are equally appreciated.
Thank you!
