Alicia's 10K to raise money for E39 Oncology
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Alicia and I'm fundraising for the Play Team on ward E39 Oncology at the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham.
In May 2023 my five year old son, Sol, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and expertly treated on ward E39 by their amazing doctors and nurses. While in hospital we were lucky to also be supported by Rebecca and Kirsty, two members of the Play Team. They do an amazing job, not only keeping the children entertained wih games, activities and crafts but also helping them to understand their diagnosis and treatment through play. Sol really enjoyed doing messy play and making slime with them and loved it when they organised a birthday party in the hospital for his brother Josiah.
During chemotherapy the children are immune compromised meaning many toys and crafts can only be used by one child. I would like to fundraise so I can purchase lots of these single use items such as small lego sets, toys cars and craft sets for Rebecca and Kirsty to use with the children. As a family we know how much it means to have a new toy or game to keep your child occupied when they have been in hospital for weeks.
I'll be running the Stilton Stumble on 15 Octber. 10 km is not a big distance for many people, but I'm not a natural runner and have had to dig deep to find the motivation to train! I'm hoping the thought of raising money for such a good cause, and such kind people, will help keep my legs moving on the day!
Sol has finished his treatment now and we are waiting to hear if he has been given the all clear, everything crossed! We are so proud of him and how he has taken everything in his stride.
Thank you for any support you can give.
