Alicia's battle with Adult Onset Still's Disease
Donation protected
Hi everyone! My name is Faith, daughter of Alicia, for whom I have created this for. As of January 2021, my mom has been battling with Audlt Onset Still's Disease. For those of you who do not know what Still's Disease is, it is a rare autoimmune or autoinflammatory disorder that attacks one's entire body. This disease affects both men and women, and can start as early as the age of 16. Unfortunately, there is no cure for this Still's Disease.
Before my mom was given a diagnoses, she had been hospitalized for two weeks. She had been struggling with an unresolving fever, rashes all acorss her body, sore throat, aches and pains in her joints, and severe chills. Initially, we thought that she must have come down with COVID, as it was still a major concern. After dealing with these symptoms for a week with no resolve, our family had to make the decision to take her to the hospital, not knowing what the outcome would be. After discovering that she did not have COVID, she was admitted, leaving us unaware of what the next steps would be. She had numerous doctors enter her room and tell her that they had no idea what was wrong with her. They were only able to provide medication that would subside her symptoms. It was hard being home for those two weeks as a highschool senior knowing that my mom was quite literally fighting for her life in the hospital, and I was unable to see her.
Since being diagnosed in February 2021, my mom has had to undergo several bone marrow treatments, various rheumotology visits, and countless nights of pain. Still's Disease has taken a toll on not only my mom's physical and mental health, but also on her finances. Becuase there is no cure for Still's Disease, my mom will have to continue her numerous doctor's visit to help keep her symptoms at bay. While I am so beyond thaknful she was given a diagnosis, it is hard having to watch her use everything in her savings knowing that her medical bills will continue to pile up.
I never thought that it would have to get to this point, but if you are able to help in anyway possible, it would be so appreciated. Any amount helps, and if you are unable to give, prayers are just as welcome! Thank you so much!
