Alicia's fight against terminal stage IV cancer
Donation protected
Hello!
My name is Shelby, and I am trying to raise money to help my sister Alicia. Alicia is the kindest and most selfless soul that I've ever known. She always goes out of her way to make sure others are taken care of before herself. She is a lover of animals and any other creatures that need assistance. She is only 30 years old, and we aren't ready to lose her!
Even after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, her first thought was to start a fundraiser for the children at Primary Children's Hospital in Utah. She not only set up the fundraiser, but she matched all of the donations and hand delivered over 30 scentsy buddies just days before Christmas!
Her problems began on May 19th 2021. While pulling the covers over her, she heard a snap in her left arm, followed by a lot of pressure and was rushed to the hospital. Just a mere 7 days later a biopsy was performed and it was discovered that she had developed Osteosarcoma, or bone cancer. One year later, she had completed 6 cycles of chemo, had all of the bone, muscles and tendons removed from her shoulder to her elbow, and replaced with a titanium rod and hinge.
Then the follow up appointment, May 12 2022. Alicia was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Another tough fight, more pills, more fighting. One month later her thyroid and lymph nodes were removed. Alicia had already been through so much, but...
August 1st, 2022, during a follow up appointment, a CT scan revealed spots on her lungs. The Doctors originally thought it was just scar tissue but unfortunately they were growing. We held out hope, hoping it wasn't something more serious. By November 18th, after numerous scans and biopsies, it was determined that she had developed Stage IV Metastatic Osteosarcoma.
Alicia has had a very tough journey that never seems to end. Doctors at the Huntsman have not given any options as far as treatments or help.
We are looking at options out of state and possibly out of country. We live in a small town in the middle of Nevada, and there isn't much around. The most promising options so far are, LA for trails, Arizona at the Mayo clinic, Texas, Tijuana and overseas in the UK. The clinic in Arizona told her that because she is so young and the cancer is so aggressive, that we will need look outside the box for treatment. None of these options accept insurance and are usually cash only. Any funds raised will be used for travel, treatments and any extra care that we can get for her.
Alicia is not ready to give up and neither are we! She has still held her head high and done her best to enjoy life everyday. And even after everything she continues to help others before herself! We believe its time to help her out any way we can.
Even if you can't donate, some kind words and sharing this campaign on social media will go a long way!
