Ali’s 5KM Charity Walk 11th December 2024

Every day, 34 people in the UK hear the devastating words, “You have a brain tumour.” And more than 5,000 people lose their lives to this disease each year.

Back in October, I was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour which predominately affects young adults(a central neurocytoma) after a short period of illness. We went from playing netball Monday, being poorly on Tuesday ending up in hospital to emergency brain surgery Friday. Unfortunately, in the surgery despite the surgeon removing it all I had a stroke leaving me paralysed on my right hand side. This charity has been a life saver to me and my family including providing me with mental health support when the NHS failed me! I still remember ordering the family pack for how to support someone with a brain tumour diagnosis the day before my emergency surgery!

On the 11th December 2023 I took my first steps again after waking up paralysed from my surgery. See video below. This year, to mark the occasion I’m setting myself the challenge to continuously walk 5km. Currently I can do about 3km so maybe I’m a bit crazy but why not push myself. Who knows next year it might be running?? Maybe I’m being a bit ambitious. But everyone who knows me knows I like a challenge!
