Alison Colucci Battle

Donation protected
Family and Friends,

My sister Alison (31) needs us to come together and ease her worries as she battles the COVID virus on the frontlines of Northwestern Medicines Testing Site. She dons a hazmat suit for 12 hour shifts 5 days a week. Alison is risking her own life to protect the City of Chicago and hopefully impacts the spread of this virus. Alison is battling the virus for us and we can help (from home) support an upcoming battle Alison will face.

Alison recently underwent an emergency surgery to remove an infection and stave off sepsis. She kept her head high through this process, even in lieu of the recent passing of our father, Philip, on October 26th, 2019. Our dad joins our mom who succumbed to breast cancer July 5th, 2010. However, this infection is not the support we need in the battle Alison faces. Alison recently received clinically significant results on her BRCA genetic testing.

What is the BRCA? It is a genetic test to see the risk of an individual for breast cancer (and others too). Alison’s results reflect the history of our family with both maternal and paternal grandmothers passing from breast cancer, in addition to our mother.

What is clinically significant? This term may seem alarming and it is. Alison is at an 85% chance of developing breast cancer any moment. She already has had two lumps in her left breast. One was taken out and the other has led us to this devastating news.

Alison is battling the virus for us as she also battles scheduling appointments to put a plan of treatment in place to keep her cancer free. She is working with her medical team at Northwestern to hash out the details once the virus passes.

The treatment for Alison will require her to have a double mastectomy (surgical removal of all breast tissues- right and left) as well as the reconstruction of them. She has a supportive medical team, three male siblings (who have the slightest clue what she is going through), and a wonderful boyfriend Joseph at her side. We can support her in a multitude of ways, specifically as emotional supports.

Yet, this procedure is costly, even with insurance. It has a 5-week recovery period in which Alison will be rehabilitating and off of work. Alison is facing a major battle down the road. This does not stop my strong sister from going into work (even within days of her emergency surgery) to help battle on the frontlines of the COVID pandemic.

I am asking you to help alleviate her financial concerns at this time so that she may focus on treating the patients who need her most right now. When his pandemic passes and the sun shines on us again we can thank the countless efforts of people like Alison, who are risking everything to keep us safe (#stayathome).

Alison’s battle enters its second phase to eradicate cancer in her breasts by removing the risk of cancer through surgical intervention. This date is yet to be determined because Alison is fighting to help contain the virus as we speak.

It would mean the world to Alison to not have to worry about medical bills after 12 hour shifts in full hazmat attire. It will give her a light at the end of a dark day telling patients they are positive for the COVID virus. I cannot even visit my own sister at this time because we must flatten the curve and stay at home.

I am asking you not to go to the bank or to the store to get a sympathy card, remember STAY AT HOME. I am asking for you to help support Alison financially, even when we are all facing uncertain times, a fragile economy and the unknown during this pandemic.

I ask we come together and ease the mind of Alison so that she may battle the COVID pandemic without stress of her upcoming procedure when this virus passes. Please donate to her Go Fund Me, or if preferred reach out to me and I will give you her mailing address.

This is a time when you can support someone who is helping keep this world safe from the spread of COVID. I thank you in advance and appreciate all you could do to support her.
