This is my best friend, Alissa. As many of you know she is a cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with two types of leukemia in November 2016 right before her 25th birthday when her daughter Kyliz was only 8 months old.
She was blessed with a bone marrow donor and had to go through a transplant. She did undergo chemo, which is a battle in itself. She had to live in a hospital for close to a year and relocated near the hospital to continue more treatment even after that. Not only that, but as she was just beginning to get back into society, the love of her life, high school sweetheart and father of her child, Luis, passed away when Kyliz was only 2 years old.
So much trauma....so much difficulty in life, but this woman has reached a point in her life where she is stronger than ever and it is so admirable. It was not easy, but she never gave up. However, there are things that still make day to day life difficult. Although in remission, Alissa still has to go to weekly treatments at the hospital to ensure that her own cells do not fight off the donor cells that are keeping her alive. In the process of her cells fighting off her donor cells, she has lost her nails, her eyesight, her strength, and much more, but most importantly to this post -- her teeth.
One of the most important aspects of life in order to maintain a happy mindset...is your smile. She has always prided herself in her beautiful smile, as you can see from the cover photo. But, she slowly has lost her teeth due to her bone marrow transplant. Aside from the cosmetic issues, she is in constant pain and finds it extremely difficult to eat. She is in need of permanent implants, which is not cheap, nor is it covered by insurance. She is a single mom that has lost her job due to this disability. Please help me give her her smile back!!!
