All For Charity,Help Recoup $500 Speedway Cheated Me Out Of.
Tax deductible
My name is Charles and just over 2 years ago, I was cheated out of $500 by Speedway and the North Carolina Education Lottery. On the night of Feb 20, 2022, at approximately 10:35, I asked the clerk at the Speedway in Siler City, NC to sell me a pick 3 ticket with the numbers 3-3-3. She refused, saying that the drawing was already in progress. I knew she was wrong and I asked her at least 3 more times and she still refused to sell the ticket. The drawing was held at 11:22 that evening and the winning numbers were 3-3-3. I just stood there in disbelief and being extremely upset that this clerk cheated me out of $500.
I called Speedway corporate the next day to file a complaint. Although security footage verified I was in the store at the time stated and that the clerk was in the wrong, they refused to make it right and give me the money. I also called the NC lottery and their hands were tied, saying they couldn't pay the money without the ticket, which I completely understand. They did admit that the clerk was improperly trained and that steps would be taken to prevent further instances in the future. I think it's a shame that a multi-billion dollar company like Speedway will not take responsibility for their employee's mistake.
For over 2 years now, I have been trying to recoup the money I was cheated out of. I thought about going to small claims court, but instead, I have decided to start a GoFundMe with 100% of any proceeds received going to Victory Junction in Randleman, NC.
