Join us in our efforts to bring 3 inclusive playgrounds to New Orleans!

New Orleans' largest all female Mardi Gras Krewe, the Mystic Krewe of Nyx , has committed to bring inclusive play through the building of playgrounds to the City of New Orleans through a partnership with the New Orleans Recreation Department Commission over the next two to three years.

“Children of all abilities should be able to play and grow together,” Nyx Captain and founder Julie Lea said. “Nyx is committed to giving back and investing in our community. By building these playgrounds we feel like we’re also investing in our future through our children.”

Nyx designates a fundraising beneficiary each year, and with this being a multi-year project, NORDC will be the beneficiary until the playgrounds are complete. Fundraising efforts will include different Nyx-led events to make the playgrounds a reality.

Nyx has already held one fundraising event for the cause which was on held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 called "NyxGiving". Nyx will continue fundraising efforts as the years go on so bringing 3 inclusive playgrounds to the City of New Orleans becomes a reality.

The next fundraising event will be on 9/28 which will be a Murder Mystery Dinner offering live and silent auction items, 3 course dinner, and a fun night of whodunnit! For tickets and event information click HERE .

The first playground will be break ground in January 2020 and will be built along the Lafitte Greenway at N. Jeff Davis Pkwy/Conti Streets. The second playground will be built in Algiers, and the third will be built in New Orleans East.

Each playground costs between $120,000 to $160,000 and upwards. Every dollar helps and is very much appreciated.

Previous beneficiaries of Nyx’s fundraising efforts include the Autism Society of Greater New Orleans, Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Hero Dogs.
