Ultimate Med Internship India 2017

Donation protected
Hello Everybody!

My name is Allison, and I am 16 years old, and currently a Junior in high school at Two Roads Charter School in Arvada, Colorado, where I will graduate next Spring.  I also am a concurrent/ dual enrollment student at Community College of Denver, where I am working toward my Associates of Science in biology, to move on to my Bachelor of Science in pre-med.  I am a member of Student Council at my high school, as well as a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success at CCD.

I have the amazing opportunity for a unique, hands-on, face-to-face approach to medicine that is not possible or available in the United States.  I will be traveling to India in July 2017 with Youth Futures International, which is affiliated with The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists.

During my stay in India I will be working with medical students from  SMT.NHL Municipal Medical College, and thier affilated hospitals and outreach centers in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India.  Our team of 50 students will be broken down into small groups, as we experience for ourselves what it's like to be a doctor, rotating every couple of days through Gross Anatomy labs (including autopsies), E.R., Operating Rooms, Labor & Delivery, NICU, Hospital & Surgical rounds, Vaccine & Outpatient clinics, and a plethora of other unbelievable advantages for a junior in high school!  Typically, experiences such as these are reserved for students in their third or fourth year of medical school, making my particpation in the Ultimate Med Internship Program a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  This is more than just observation; we will be doing hands-on participation in many of these procedures.

I am truly grateful to take part in Ultimate Med Intership so that I may make a difference in the lives of the people of India.  I am eager to connect cross-culturally and allow myself to be used in whatever manner God sees fit to utilize me... Helping to deliver vaccines to the underpriveleged, assisting in deliveries of babies, determining cause of death,  or simply comforting patients as they recieve or await treatment.

I know the 17 days spent in India will give me an undeniable advantage in my college quest as I pursue a career in the field of medicine.  I will be flying out of Denver to the East Coast where I will meet up with my group as we make our way to India.  While I am on the East Coast, I would like to take this oppurtuinity to go visit New York University.  It has been my dream since I was 3 to be a doctor, and to attend NYU.  Visiting both NYU and India will confirm those  desires before I commit fully to a particular medical school.

This trip will cost around $8,000.  My amazing grandmother has already put down the down payment and helped me raise $4,000.  I appreciate any donations, and  even $10 will help me have this once-in-a-lifetime experience.  I live in Denver with my mother, who is a single mom in graduate school.  My amazing father and step-mom have already contributed what they can by paying for my passport and visa.  I hold a part-time job on my college campus, which I will use to help fund this trip.  In addition to my job, I will also be doing local fundraising to earn my spot in India this summer.

As soon as I have the means, I would love to "pay-it-forward" by donating to others who would like to go, as well as participating in Doctors Without Borders and other humanitarian work.
