Zero Gravity:
Zero Gravity is a tech-powered platform on a mission to spot talented students in low-opportunity areas and unlock their potential all the way from school into top universities, apprenticeships, and careers.
The growth of Zero Gravity is rooted in first-hand experience. Zero Gravity's founder, Joe, grew up in a single-parent household in West Yorkshire and overcame significant barriers to secure a place at the University of Oxford. His journey shaped Zero Gravity’s mission: to use technology to unlock hidden talent from low-opportunity backgrounds nationwide and dare them to land a future they didn’t think was possible.
Zero Gravity has supported over 15,000 students from low-opportunity backgrounds into universities across the UK, including more than 1,000 into Oxford and Cambridge. But securing a place is only half the battle. The student finance system assumes everyone has access to the “Bank of Mum and Dad”. For students living outside London, the average student loan falls £3,021 short of covering basic living costs. Even those on the maximum loan are forced to work 19 hours a week just to stay afloat.
This is why Zero Gravity launched a scholarship fund to start deploying £3,000 scholarships to students from low-opportunity backgrounds so they could focus on their studies and future careers. This funding and career support accelerate their academic and career journeys.
To date, Zero Gravity has supported four cohorts, covering £1.8M in funding to 560+ students at 50+ UK universities. The impact is crystal clear. Zero Gravity scholars are:
- 44% less likely to need part-time jobs, saving 100 hours per year on average to focus on studies
- Three times more likely to secure professional work experience compared to their peers
- 72% les likely to drop-out of university
- More likely to outperform their peers in their exams.
Revenue from partnerships with HSBC, Lloyds, KPMG, Snap, and many more, keeps Zero Gravity free for students and enables a 100% scholarship model, whereby all funding committed to scholarships goes straight to students.
Zero Gravity is now on a mission to raise £1 million to launch 333 talented students from low-opportunity backgrounds into university by September 2025. All funding goes directly to scholarships, and all donations are eligible for Gift Aid.
