Aloha Friday For Sight
According to the World Health Organization:
- An estimated 253 million people live with vision impairment
- 36 million are blind and
- 217 million have moderate to severe vision impairment
Over 80% of all vision impairment can be prevented or cured.
We have established the annual "Aloha Friday for Sight" event for eye centers and other businesses to raise money to sponsor surgery for blind patients in rural regions worldwide though Hawaiian Eye Foundation.
Over 20,000 charity surgeries have been performed since HEF’s inception in 1984. The Hawaiian Eye Foundation is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit that also provides training programs to ophthalmologists in SE Asia. More recently, our efforts have reached the Dominican Republic, Yap, the Federated States of Micronesia, and communities in Mexico. Establishing continuing education programs is crucial for long-term vision care. HEF also has four sustainable clinics that provide year-round care and participate in HEF’s telemedicine program.
On Friday, October 19, 2018, eye centers and other businesses throughout the nation will allow staff to wear casual, Hawaiian themed attire to work as a fun activity to will benefit our worthwhile organization that provides eye exams and surgeries to underserved villages throughout the Pacific and beyond.
Each staff member will be asked to participate by donating a minimum of $5 for casual wear or dress-up privileges on Aloha Friday. Each practice can create a festive environment by ordering luau decorations/leis from one of many websites, none of which have any affiliation with HEF. A list of these is available on request. HEF fundraising flyers are also available if the practice is willing to invite their patients and vendors to also participate. (email [email redacted] and [email redacted]).
As with many charitable foundations, we encourage the practice to provide a charity match donation, another opportunity to receive a corporate tax deduction, knowing the funds are used to restore vision to the blind. Please send all raised funds and photos to 95-717 Kipapa Dr. #23 Mililani, HI 96789 to receive a tax donation letter.
