Alternative Spring Break Project
Donation protected
This year instead of going with friends on spring break, I will be going to Costa Rica with the IU School of Media to spend a week learning about the history and cultural identity of the people of the southern Caribbean Coast. I, along with 11 other media students, will work alongside local residents to uncover aspects of life that are relevant to their communities' story and document these glimpses of life through audio and photographic storytelling techniques. The goal of our trip is to capacitate local storytellers with the tools they need to tell the stories of Caribe Sur from the perspectives of the people who call it home.
Of course, this one-lifetime opportunity comes with a cost - one that goes beyond the means of what can be afforded. Please consider donating to this fund as it is an opportunity for me to have an interdisciplinary service learning opportunity along with a cross-cultural experience that I can bring back to my community.
