Alternative United Flash Fundraiser

Alternative United is raising money for their upcoming trip to Toronto to watch the Raptors play. For many of the students, this will be the trip of a lifetime, both a unique opportunity to visit a city they've never been to before and a chance to see their first ever NBA game.

This year, we've launched a creative writing initiative to raise money for the trip. Over the next two weeks, the students are writing as many words as they can and making videos of themselves reading or performing their work.

The first portion of the money we raise will be used to cover the remaining costs of our trip to Toronto. Anything on top of that will be split between funding this year's tenth volume of Voices, our yearly creative writing contest and publication, as well as to a nonprofit organization called Avenues Montreal that supports our students after they leave our schools.

Alternative United is a sports and creative arts program open to students from the EMSB's Outreach Network, ten small alternative schools located across Montreal. Students travel from all over the city on a regular basis to participate in these programs. We organize a trip to Toronto every couple of years to reward them for their remarkable efforts.

What you'll get if you donate: 1) a tax receipt; 2) a warm fuzzy feeling inside; 3) a letter of gratitude from yours truly, including video clips from our writing initiative; 4) donations of $100 or more will get you a personalized Alternative United hoodie of your choosing, either for Voices or the basketball team, or the all-new Avenues Montreal sweatshirt.
