Althea Needs Your Help

Hello Friends! We are Susie Moloney, Kate Ryan, and Sue Goberdhan, and we are raising money for our dear friend (and yours!) Althea Cunningham.

You know her! We all know her. She's gone to your shows, she's been in your shows, you've heard her sing on the streets and in clubs. She goes to your readings, she votes on your shows for the Sterlings, and for the book awards. She's endlessly supportive of you and your work. She's Althea Cunningham and whether you're a good friend or a casual acquaintance, you know her when you see her or hear her booming, joyous laugh from the audience or in the crowd.

And now she needs the help of the community.

Althea, although she presents well, has struggled greatly with mental health issues, most of which have gone unaddressed for the bulk of her adult life. She is without family, an only child and both parents have passed.

She's had a really long string of bad luck and bad health. She's battled depression for years and recently things have become much worse. Althea is facing some of the hardest times of her life, and the next two months can make or break how the next ten years--or more--will go for her.

Those close to her know that she has struggled with secure housing. In the past 3 years she has moved roughly 13 times, most of those moves in the last 2 years.

This situation is dire. As of Thursday, April 20, Althea will be homeless unless steps are taken to secure solid, temporary housing for her.

We, her friends, are seeking to raise funds to house her while she receives long-delayed psychiatric treatment, after which she will be able to live a healthful, peaceful and stable life.

A lot of you are artists. We're artists. Althea is an artist. No one expecting any one person to donate big money. Anything you can contribute will help. And if you can't give now, help spread the word.
