Dear Friends,
It's been a very hard year for the Altmans; having all my musical instruments stolen out of my car on mothers day, a major knee sprain in July that left me unable to walk for 3 months (still healing), and now we are being forced to move out of our house where we have lived for 15 years. We were served a notice to vacate the day before Thanksgiving, and now we have less than 60 days to find a new place. It's never a good time for an eviction, but its a particularly bad time for the housing market and for us financially as we are still recovering the loss of income from my accident in July. Because we live in Oakland, we are not entitled to a big payout as is the law in Berkeley and SF.
We are so sad to leave our house and our beloved neighborhood. We live near so many wonderful people and families. Ellah has 5 kids on our block that are in her first grade class and many others whom she loves to play with. We are also part of our neighborhood school which we hope to remain close to.
The rental market is crazy right now and we need help to weather this transition. At the very best, we will be paying at least $1000 more a month than we are currently paying for much less of a house. So we are raising money to help us with move in costs and all the moving costs and loss of self employment income necessary to make this move.
We know there is so much going on in the world and so many people are in need of help, but a few of our friends recomended setting up this page so that they can offer help ,so thats what we are doing. Its very vulnerable for us to do this, but we are just going to give it a shot.
All the money will be used right away to get us into a new place and help pay the cost of moving. If we raise enough money, I can also replace my beloved guitar and cajon that was stolen in May as well.
Your support means so much to us. If money support is not what you can offer right now, we also appreciate help finding a house, help with packing or help with childcare while we are packing, coming over and just being with us while we pack, shlepping loads of stuff places, helping Alon carry large objects, etc.
We are so very grateful for any and all support! We thank you all from the deepest place in our heart for being part of our community.
Sincerely,
The Altman Family
(Jen, Alon, Ellah and Tali)
