Alysia’s Back Surgery has to be Redone
Donation protected
As many of you know Alysia Taormina has gone through so much already. It pains me to see her struggle and I want to help her and her family in any way I can. Her original plan was for her to finally go back to teaching in January 2023, but yet again another set back has happened.
On July 15th Alysia went into emergency for a awful pain in her back. They discovered through scans that she had broken a titanium rod which they no clue how this could of happened because this this girl is like 95 pounds wet. She was also complaining of pain on her left side in which doctors assured her she was fine. July 17th when the surgeons went in to fix the rod they found black fluid. On her left side they saw part of her intestines attached to the mesh from her prior surgery and that caused a tear (fistula). They closed up her back and started an emergency surgery in the front of her abdomen where they removed a foot of her intestines. She currently has a temporary ostomy bag until further notice.
Right now Alysia is in recovery, but this does not end her suffering. Unfortunately due to the infection every single rod that was placed needs to be replaced. To prevent this from happening again, plastic surgeon will pull some of her abdominal muscles through the back and attach them to her pelvis and sacrum. We do not have a date quite yet because her infection needs to be clear before they can operate. She is in severe agony right now and this is only the beginning. She will need 6 weeks after to recover. I don’t know how someone can tolerate the amount of pain, frustration, and loss is beyond something I will never comprehend. If you don’t know her story she has lost her first born daughter Paisley after 9 days of having her. A month later she discovered she had bone cancer and endured 3 life threatening surgeries. To even think she has to do do 2 of these surgeries again is absolutely earth shattering.
I know Alysia is one walking and breathing miracle and she will have the strength to get through this again, but I know they need a little help to get by.
Financially, disability will only pay so much, and I can only imagine the hardships they will counter as the were just getting their heads out of the water. At this point anything helps and appreciated so much! Thank you for everyone’s thoughts, prayers, and donations throughout Alysia’s recovery. It has been amazing to see all the support ❤️.
30 staples were placed in her abdominal area.
Every piece of hardware will need to be replaced.
