Alyssa Ackert's Medical Journey

This GoFundMe is being created to help our friend Alyssa out. This past May Alyssa discovered a lump in her left breast. After completing scans and two different biopsy’s she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent surgery in June, and then started 6 weeks of treatments after that to make sure there were no remaining cancer cells. At the beginning of August Alyssa’s PET scan was clear and she was able to stop treatments.

A couple weeks ago she went to see her doctor because she was not feeling well and thought she may have a sinus infection. Turns out she did have a sinus infection, but her white blood cell was also elevated. Due to the elevated white blood cell count Alyssa’s doctor suggested she make an appt with her breast doctor. At that point her breast doctor ordered an MRI, and it showed a small new tumor in her left breast.

It was determined that she had localized recurrent breast cancer. This means that the cancer hasn’t spread and is still only in her left breast. Recurrent breast cancer can appear a couple of months after the initial treatment ends and happens because a few cells survived the initial treatment and start to grow. Because of this she has begun treatments again to hopefully get rid of this tumor.

Alyssa is still working but has had to reduce her work hours in order to have time to go to her appointment’s multiple times a week and to get the rest that she needs.

 Alyssa has a huge heart and has never hesitated to help many of us out over the years no questions asked. Now she needs our help. Any type of donation you could give to help her and her family at this time would be greatly appreciated to help offset the time she has to be off work, and to help pay her medical bills that never seem to end.
