Alyssa's Abdominal Obstruction Surgeries

I want to start off by saying thank you for taking the time to read Alyssa’s story and keeping her in your thoughts. As I watch her lay in this hospital bed in pain, I see her trying to be positive and keep faith even though as many of you know can be very difficult at times. She has been dealing with Ulcerative Colitis following an extensive full colectomy since 2010, which has given her many trials and tribulations to overcome. It seems like once she starts to look forward to life and what the future holds like her engagement and wedding in 2024, there are complications such as an obstruction in her intestines.

This time it started on February 25th, when she arrived at Northside Hospital with severe abdominal pain. After a week of tests and a small procedure to attempt to clear the obstruction with no avail, she will now need a fifth full abdominal surgery. This news hit her at her core. Mentally she was already at a low with just everyday life stressors, one of which included her apartment getting flooded due to a pipe burst over Christmas, her two pups getting sick and requiring emergency vet care and now this. She will now have to undergo a major operation, spend an additional week or so in the hospital post operation and have additional time off work as she heals. The financial burden and emotional burden have set in and as hard as it is to stay positive, she knows she must put her pride aside and accept help, as she cannot do this alone. She is coming out of this procedure to the unknown, with no PTO, no short-term medical disability and no income coming in. I turn to you all to help me, help her get through this time.
