Donate for Alyx
It's hard to find the words to describe Alyx Shea. He was so many things to so many different people. He was loved by all, and has touched the lives of countless people.
On Monday, the unthinkable happened. He stopped breathing. Unknown to everyone, he had a growth in his throat that cut off his airway. His wonderful girlfriend, Hayley, performed CPR until the EMTs arrived. He was rushed to Tucson Medical Center where they did everything they could to save his life. Unfortunately, he went too long without oxygen.
On Wednesday afternoon a CT scan confirmed that the damage to Alyx's brain was too much for him to survive. Alyx will likely be going off of life support on Friday, when he will make his last kind gesture to the world. Alyx is a registered organ donor, and his organs could go on to save the lives of five more people. Just like Alyx - giving to the very end.
Over the last few days, dozens, if not hundreds, or people have come to see Alyx in the hospital. He hasn't been alone at all since he arrived in the ICU at 8am Monday morning. The support for Alyx and his family is almost overwhelming and we can't begin to thank everyone enough. It is so great to know how many people loved and cared for Alyx.
While we do not anticipate many medical bills, we are asking for donations. They will go to pay what medical bills we have, as well as make sure there is money for all of Alyx's family to come to Tucson for the memorial.
Remaining money will go to support the memorial and related final expenses.
Details about the final arrangements are currently be worked out. We are also setting up places for people to share stories and photos of Alyx. Thank you for all your love and support.
