AMAC COVID-19
Donation protected
The Activated Massachusetts African Community (AMAC) is a grassroots organization with the mission to educate, support and advocate for the well being of the African community living in Massachusetts. We are a group of African activists, community leaders, health workers, and entrepreneurs dedicated to our community. We envision a thriving community united to celebrate culture and promote civic engagement to advance the lives of African in the Commonwealth. COVID-19 has brought an onslaught of immediate community needs in the Greater Boston African immigrant community. There is a gap in culturally and linguistically appropriate education, prevention, support and social services. Too often, relief efforts do not reach this community — and a significant number of individuals in the African immigrant community are uninsured, unfamiliar with the health care system, and unstable immigration status. Fear, myths and xenophobia complicate test seeking and adherence to mandates. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, AMAC is raising financial resources to support African immigrants who are experiencing hardship and also ensure that African immigrant communities in Massachusetts are receiving accurate COVID-19 information and appropriate referrals to needed services.
