Amadi Anoxic Brain Injury Recovery Fund

Hi my name is Nicole Brooks-Martin, I am pleading for support for my daughter 29 year old daughter Amadi ongoing anoxic brain injury recovery. Amadi is a single mother of a 5 year old daughter Riley Nicole. On August 7,2022 Amadi had a asthma attack , which caused her to go into respiratory arrest, leading quickly to cardiac arrest. Unfortunately, Riley Nicole witness her mother ordeal. “ My mommy had her breathing mask on, she grab the lamp and feel asleep on the floor. I put my shoes on to help her.” When family member’s responded to Riley Nicole cries. Amadi was found unresponsive, 911 was called. However; Amadi had lost significant oxygen to her brain. Amadi was placed on Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) a advance life support, as well as ventilation support. During the first couple of weeks I was faced with the “quality of life decisions.” I was asked to take her off of light support. However; I could not regardless of the possibility of her being in a vegetative or minimally conscious state. Amadi wanted to raise her daughter, and I could not leave Riely Nicole without her mom. I loss my other daughter Monae 31 months ago, and live within the impact of a young child being without their mother. Hence; the daughter, mother, sister and auntie we know is no longer. She has been diagnosed with anoxic brain injury. I went back to work to add her to my insurance. However; many of her needs will not be covered. I have consulted with Sheppard an neurological rehabilitation center. The cost is estimated to be 20,000, void of insurance. Amadi is currently in Moss Rehabilitative Rehabilitation in which the goal is to invoke a higher level of consciousness. However; her discharge is pending and I must explore other options. Amadi wanted to see Riley Nicole off to her first day of school. That didn’t happen. Riley Nicole will not have movie night with her mom or hear her read a book to her. She will be able to lay next to her and cherish her memories of a life that has past. Yet, I remain hopeful. I don’t know what our future holds. But, I will advocate and fight for my daughter’s life. Caring for her daily as she can no longer meet her own needs. This is devastating. I thought losing Monae was my greatest test, now I don’t know. We haven’t recovered as a family with Monae now Amadi. Please provide us with some support prayers donation’s . Think of us wear a green ribbon for brain injury. Life is a gift and we never know what can happen. I know first hand in one instance my life is forever change. I will remain strong as I have two grandchildren to raise, and my Amadi to care for.
