Amalia's Cancer Support Fund

Earlier this year, our dear friend, Amalia Montoya (Mexica & Apache), was diagnosed with cancer. Her doctors have encouraged her to do anything she wants to do now, as she will become more disabled with time.

In light of this devastating development, we are asking people who are able to donate so that funds can be raised to meet different personal and medical expenses. Please see the message from Amalia below.

Dear friends,

I find myself in a situation I could not have imagined. One that is both humbling and humiliating and heartbreaking all in the same moment. As time goes on the chemo that is helping me to live will also eat away at my body eventually causing me to become more and more incapacitated. The doctors have said to do any travel now to visit friends and loved ones. Some of our financial needs are going to be harder to meet, such as renovation of our bathroom to make it accessible. Again l find myself in a position I never imagined. I must turn to my community for help, l ask for any financial assistance that is within one's means if willing. It is with the greatest respect and honor of my community that I make this ask. Long live the revolution!

Note: GFM requires fundraisers to have a goal but Amalia was clear that she didn't want to have a financial goal for this fundraiser because she did not want anyone to feel pressured to donate.
