Amanda and Daisy Need Your Help

Donation protected
Hello friends, family, and acquaintances, and everyone visiting this page. You may already be aware, but my dog, Daisy, has been asked to be removed from my building due to false claims by another resident of Daisy being out of control, and essentially a menace. If you've met Daisy or heard me talk about her, you know that not only is she the most cuddly pup around, but also that she is my world.

Daisy has been my female companion for the last 3.5 years of living with boys. Our Amanda and Daisy girls' nights, mornings in bed, long walks exploring Seattle's parks, working from home, and morning runs are near and dear to my heart, in addition to countless other treasured moments. She is my Emotional Support Animal as well, and she never fails to comfort me if she sees that I'm not in my typically high spirits. I could not ask for a better best friend.

Daisy was found as a stray in Houston, TX after Hurricane Harvey in 2017. I was lucky enough to adopt her from Seattle Humane in December of that same year. Coming to an apartment in Seattle with rules, rain, and basic civilization was not an easy transition for Daisy, as her survival and pack instincts are strong. She is protective to the max, which has admittedly saved me many times on the streets of Capitol Hill. Unfortunately, she is also a big dog, and the reason behind her response to new and strange things or people is not always understood by strangers, nor is it accepted. She is scared, and thinks she is protecting me from what she sees as threats. That being said, while on leash and walking through the hallways, Daisy doesn't get farther than a foot away from my body. She has never hurt anyone, and I would never allow her to.

I've been wanting to enroll Daisy in a boarding training program for some time to finally help her manage her fears, but due to COVID her training in crowded areas was not possible, so it has been put off many times. In response to a complaint from my building's staff and with the city slowly opening up again, I called Daisy's favorite boarding place, and my top choice for training, Cascade Kennels. They reluctantly informed me that they were booked until September--also due to COVID. I was hoping we could lay low until then, but then on the morning of 16June2021 we received a notice for Daisy to vacate the premises in 10 days.

If she's going, then so am I.

After a few hours of Google searching and reading reviews, I was fortunate enough to contact the people at Academy of Canine Behavior. By the goodness of their hearts, they met with us for an evaluation with such short notice on 18June2021 and are squeezing us in to their 5-week boarding training program within the term of Daisy's notice to vacate. This program is $3,485.

In the time that Daisy is away at school, I will be looking for a new place to live, because she can't come back to my apartment at the end of the program--I begged. The cost of my last move just a few months ago in March was about $600 for movers and a truck.
Edit: this move is costing $727 because of stairs and distance. Booked it all today!

I have to find a house, with a yard, because clearly apartments and city streets are not Daisy's thing. The trainer also mentioned that Daisy will be significantly more comfortable in her own open space away from daily stranger encounters. From my quick search, this will include a deposit of about $2,000, and first & last month's rent, the max of which I'm able to pay is $1,400/month.
Edit: the place that Jake and I found (and signed a lease on yesterday!!) has a deposit of $2,700, which we are splitting, and only requires first month's rent, which is $2,700 all for me because Jake won't be able to move in until November so I'm looking for a roommate.

Here's the real kicker - I got laid off at the beginning of May 2021, with my only income since then being a single payment under $300 from my part-time job as a dance instructor. With these expenses plus July rent for my current apartment, I have to come up with $10,033 in 5 weeks.
Edit: my roommate Isaac is graciously letting me move out on July 3 without paying July rent, saving me $1, 148! Also, I've received some Venmo and Zelle donations, detailed below, which bring my goal here down to $2, 441! Customer service explained that due to fees and the inability to process partial refunds, the total raised will be more than my actual goal so that it comes out to be close to what I actually need when withdrawn.

Boarding/Training: $3, 485
Moving: $727
House Deposit: $1, 350
First Month's Rent: $2, 700
Venmo received: - $636
Zelle received: - $5, 185

Daisy has met countless friends and showed them nothing but kindness and love. I hope that after training and with more space to get her energy out, she can show the same to strangers and be less afraid of her life in the city.
Creating this GoFundMe was not an easy decision, as I don't typically ask for help with things. This time, though, I just can't cut it alone. I need help. It would mean the absolute most to me and Daisy if you would be willing to contribute to our cause. I would be indebted to each and every one of you and can send you all hand-written notes of appreciation, and a photo of Daisy for your viewing pleasures, in return.

If you've made it all the way to the end of this, I thank you for your time and consideration. If you haven't yet had the opportunity to meet Daisy, I hope that you do in the near future. She's one of a kind.

Sincerely,

Amanda McCausland
