Amanda Ankerson

Amanda started getting sick on Monday, May 8th.  She went to the doctor the following day and was told that she had MRSA.  She was sent home with an oral antibiotic but by the following morning the "infection" had spread not only further up the right thigh but on to the left thigh.  Amanda returned to the ER where she was admitted to the hospital for pain managent and to receive intravenous antibiotics.  At that time the doctors diagnosed her with Bullous Hemorrhagic Cellulitis.  The "infection" was not responding to the antibiotics and finally was taken into emergency surgery on Saturday, May 13th.  The doctors thought that it had developed into Necrotizing Fascitis which is a life threatening condition.  The doctors removed a great amount of her inner thigh on both legs.  After the surgery the surgeon stated that the "infection" had stopped right before the fascia which was a prayer answered.  We were very optimistic that things were going to turn around.  As of today, Tuesday May 16th, the "infection" c ontinues to develop leading to a deadening of the skin that will need to be surgically removed.  The doctors are now thinking that this might be a very rare disorder called Pyoderma Gangrenosum.  Pyoderma Gangrenosum can be the result of a futher systemic disease that has gone undiagnosed such as lupus, chrons, MS, bone marrow disease etc.  Amanda has a long road ahead of her.  It is unknown how many more surgeries she will need to have, how long she will continue to be in the hospital and when she will be able to return to work.  When she went into surgery on Saturday, the physician told her that she may be in the hospital for 2 months or more.  Of course this could be a shorter or longer stay.   Amanda lives by herself and has no other income.  If you can, please help lessen the stress and fears so Amanda can focus on her health.  If you would rather donate without using the Go Fund Me account, please contact her mom - Amy Hanson - [email redacted]
