Amanda Kicker

Starting this fundraiser for my sister, Amanda Kicker. As many of you know, she had an accident over the weekend. She was putting air in her tire when the car started rolling. She got pulled underneath the car and the car ran over her dragging her about 100 ft. Amanda is currently in the trauma unit at Fairfax Hospital and has multiple injuries. She has broken bones on multiple ribs, her pelvis, her shoulder blade, and her knee. The nurse told us Monday morning that she likely will not make it back to work this school year (Amanda is a special education teacher in Prince William county).
While she is in the hospital, she will still need to pay her monthly bills and rent. We also don't know right now if her car is drivable or able to be repaired. Unfortunately, we have been told that because she is in her first year of employment she is not eligible for short-term disability.
Any help that you can offer as appreciated. Please keep Amanda in your prayers and pray for a speedy recovery.
UPDATE - We found out late this afternoon, 5/1, that insurance will not be covering her car. At this time, we don't know if the car can be repaired or will start since part of the hood ended up underwater. We will plan on helping her work through transportation once she gets discharged. Thank you all for your generous donations so far. We appreciate it more than you know!
5/2/23 - Today we learned that the car is a total loss because the hood was submerged in water. Part of the GoFundMe will be used to help with a vehicle.
5/4/23 - Amanda has been discharged from the hospital. She cannot bear weight on her upper left and lower left extremity. She was discharged home with family and with a wheelchair to help her until she can bear weight on her own. She will also have home physical therapy and occupational therapy. Amanda will still need surgery on her left knee for the fracture as well as a torn ACL and partial tear on her MCL. Hoping that she will be able to bear weight on her left leg in the near future. Thank you all for your support!
5/13/23 - We learned yesterday that Amanda's surgery for her knee is scheduled for the middle of July. Our goal is to get rent and monthly bills covered through the end of August. Amanda remains in good spirits but is still not driving while she recovers from the fractures. Thank you to everyone who has donated!
5/18/23 - Yesterday we learned that Amanda was placed on unpaid medical leave of absence at work. She does not have any sick time left and as mentioned above does not qualify for short-term disability. We also learned that she has to pay out of pocket to continue insurance coverage until she is able to go back to work. We are trying to work with the doctors and school to get her back to work as soon as possible even if it is for half days in the wheelchair. At this time, we are waiting on word from both the doctor and school as to whether or not she will be able to return with limitations. If not, she will not get her first paycheck for next school year until the middle of September and will have to pay out of pocket for insurance until then. This in addition to monthly rent and other bills. Thank you again for all of your support.
