It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we say goodbye to a friend, colleague, and brother today. SSG. Matt Morgan, was lost Sunday and this Go Fund Me Site was created to help his widow Amanda Morgan with any costs associated with both funeral and travel, as they were both stationed and living in Okinawa, Japan.
On Sunday morning February the 2nd, SSG. Matt Morgan was leading a technical diving charter to the USS Emmons, where he passed away leaving a sudden and irreplaceable void within his family and our community. Matt was the best of us. He had such a gift for sharing his love of the ocean with all of those around him and in doing so made the earth a better place. This fund is to help his wife Amanda to find solace and help through the inevitable dark days ahead.
Amanda and Matt had been married 5 years and would have celebrated their 6th anniversary this July. Matt was a stand up guy, always with a smile on his face. He loved Okinawa, he loved diving, and most importantly he loved Amanda. The two shared a love for the ocean, their two dogs, and Okinawa.
Why I set up this fund:
This find will help Amanda and her family deal with this sudden and unexpected loss. My friendship with Amanda started with Dragon Boating in Okinawa. She was and my wife were on the same team Yasha Dragons Okinawa. Amanda will receive every cent raised by this fund, to help her cover any expenses or unforeseen costs that may come up from this terrible tragedy.
The bond between her and her teammates was amazing, and eventually Amanda became the coach the past year. I have seen her become a leader in the community, taking newcomers on trail runs exploring the island, and always smiling, when she spoke of Matt. My wife and I were with her the night before Matts' passing, enjoying a dragon boat team function. The next morning we got the terrible news and my wife has been by her side since. No one should lose a husband at this young age, just starting out in life.
Amanda is strong, and a fighter just like Matt. Both were competitive, and one of the last stories she told me before Matts passing was that she had recently been in a lifting competition, and placed 3rd. Matt wondered if this was going to be a thing, and he would have to step up to the challenge, that's how their relationship was, always together exploring, always competitive and always in love.
I knew since we are in Okinawa, there would be some costs that are upfront, and some that will need to be dealt with later. That is why I started this Memorial Fund page. Although the military will be providing her with insurance and other help, I was hoping to give her some immediate assistance so its one less thing she has to deal with here on island. Amanda and Matt embodied to me everything that says, "We are in Love". Rest easy Matt, know that we will take care of her while your are no longer with us, she will be surrounded by friends and family, by her teammates and of course by your two adorable dogs.
My message to Amanda Morgan:
Amanda I hope these funds help soften the blow of losing Matt, just remember while he is not with you physically, he is still with you. He is with all of us. I want you to remember all the great times you had with Matt, those memories no one can take away. And someday my friend, You and Matt will once again dance together again in heaven.
