Amanda Payne, Reconstructive Surgery
Donation protected
As some of you may have heard, my niece Amanda Payne was recently injured. On Friday May 1st, while visiting the home of a friend, she was walking up the driveway toward their garage when without warning or any signs of aggression, the homeowners dog leapt toward Amanda’s face causing her to suffer serious damage to her nose. In the “accident” the tip of her nose was literally bitten off. She retrieved it and it was reattached but she was given a grim prognosis. In this last week, after consulting with several surgeons in Huntsville, Birmingham, Nashville and other surrounding partnerships they determined the damage is too severe for their level of expertise. All of the tissue on her nose tip has since died and she is going to have her left nostril gaping and missing the entire tip of her nose. Since exploring the few options she was offered, it was determined that she should see Dr Menick in Tucson Arizona for reconstructive surgery (see attached treatment plan). Amanda and Dr Menick are working on several tentative dates and nothing is definitive yet but she is hoping to be able to commit to earliest availability. Remarkably, Amanda has maintained her upbeat, positive outlook/attitude in the midst of all this and what will be a long and arduous process. The surgeons don’t guarantee ‘pre-injury’ results (there will scars) but they hope to achieve a realistic level of normalcy which may help reduce the trauma she and her sons have been dealing with.
Amanda anticipates that her health insurance will cover some of her initial emergency care costs. The ‘pet owner’ has committed to assisting her with future medical bills via their homeowners insurance policy and she is hopeful those obligations will be honored and fulfilled but that will take time. In order to get the care she needs it will require that she and her mom (my sister) Linda Bragg travel to Arizona for consultations and the eventual surgeries. In addition, she is applying for Key Health assistance but that too is uncertain. I’ve created this account in an effort to raise money for the required ‘up-front’ surgical fees, airfare, lodging and unforeseen miscellaneous costs they may incur during the necessary multiple trips.
Amanda and Linda are both very hard working people. Amanda has taken on extra shifts at Huntsville Hospital ER and another medical clinic (btw, she was back at work within 2 days of the accident) and Linda has been taking on extra work herself in an effort to prepare for whatever expenses may arise.
If you can contribute they’d appreciate it more than words can express, especially during the trying times we are living in. Her coworkers are taking up a collection as well so if you’ve already donated Thank You!!
If you have any questions feel free to message me, Linda Bragg or Amanda Payne.
Thanks to everyone and God Bless.
