Amanda's adventure into Midwifery

Donation protected

Hi there, my name is Amanda. For a long time I've had a dream to become a midwife. The desire has grown in different seasons and now there's a green light (and unconditional offer!) to start my studies at UWE Bristol in September, but in order for it to start I need your help!

Just before I visited Uganda in 2012 (to take part in Mission School an organisation called Revelation Life were holding) I was beginning to pursue a career in Midwifery. During my time in Uganda I encountered God in powerful ways during worship and as we went out into the communities being the hands and feet of Jesus. Safe to say my world was changed and I felt such a calling to Africa and its people. I knew my time wasn't finished in Uganda at the end of the 3 week Missions School, so I continue working with Revelation Life and returned to Uganda a few months later. While there my love for the women grew as I sat with them, listen to their journeys and often drove them to hospitals for various reasons. One of the things that impacted me was how poorly the women were treated and cared for during pregnancy and, particularly, birth. I often found myself in a tension of knowing I could be a blessing practically and being an advocate for these precious women but left feeling helpless medically and/or professionally. The deep desire of wanting to learn how to help women during pregnancy and birth has never left since, but only grown stronger with time. Not just for Ugandan women but all women!

When I fell pregnant with Nina I decided our lives where best lived in the UK while I found my feet as a mother and the new adventure in front of me. This experience, being a mother, has been the most rewarding and most challenging of my life, and with it I've learnt skills that I know I'd need to pursue my love of being a Midwife. Nina has given me more than she can know, and my dream of becoming a Midwife was never postponed because of her but has excelled because of her. The person I am today is one that knows this is what I was born to do and has the courage to reach for that dream.

Anyone that's braved mentioning birth, pregnancy or children around me will have surely endured a lengthly chat around my passion to create safe environments for women to give birth and to empower women to trust and listen to their bodies (they are pretty incredible!), as well receive the care and support pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, post-pregnancy and being a parent. For those of you that have; thank you for your grace and patience!

So, here I am about to step into this dream and there's one last obstacle to concur. My first years tuition hasn't been funded, due to previous studies, which means I need to raise £8395 (this includes £243 fee gofundme charge) to get me there. All other years are approved and funded! Thank you Jesus!

I know I have come too far in this journey to stop now and I know I can not do it alone. So if you feel you'd like to give and start this journey with me, please click the button below.
