Amanda's Recovery Support Team
Donation protected
On Sunday evening, November 7th, Amanda went out on one last ride on her scooter before winterizing it for the season. While out in her neighborhood a driver in a car hit her and then fled the scene. She doesn't remember the accident but there are witnesses that called emergency services and were able to give the police enough information to catch the driver.
Amanda has a broken right leg, a broken nose, 20+ stitches on her face, and a head injury (she was wearing a helmet). She is out of ICU and will likely be transferred to a rehab hospital here soon.
As is the nature of head injuries, they are not sure how long she will be in the hospital, but it will be at minimum a few weeks and potentially longer. During this time she will not be able to work or take care of other life needs. We are starting this campaign so that she does not need to return to work until she is ready. She may need more financial support than this, but this is a start.
Hospitals can be very lonely, especially in a pandemic. And entertainment options are limited with a head injury. Here are some of the things that you can do to help support Amanda. We will add more as they come up.
- Visit her (message us for location and room #, since it may change)
- Visit her cats and send her a photo (they miss her and I know she is worried about them)
- Send her video messages (she may not have access to her phone so let us know if you have a video you want to share with her)
Her CaringBridge site will have information on helping her with rides, shopping, food, and other personal care and support tasks once she is back home. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/amandaschroederkc
